Jose Angel Fuentes III

Born: October 8, 1975

Jose, a native of the great state of Indiana, spent his childhood years in the small town of Plymouth after entering this world from the city of South Bend.  He started getting interested in art, at about 7 years of age, when he was given a couple of Star Wars coloring/activity books and was mesmerized by the way the pictures were drawn.  That soon led to his father introducing him to the Conan (the Barbarian) comics.  The way the art flowed between pages simply captivated him and he was forever hooked.  From that point on, Joe’s weekly allowance was spent on comic books.

Now jump ahead, if you will, to his junior high school years.  That’s where Jose would meet his future best friend, Troy Amones.  After that fateful day in the 6th grade, Joe and Troy would give new meaning to the phrase “joined at the hip.”  They did nearly everything together.  In high school Joe signed up for every art class that he was allowed to take, but made no advancement in the comic field at that time.  He then graduated in 1994 and soon moved to Elkhart, Indiana where he eventually met his first wife and had his daughter, Isabel.  They soon divorced, however remaining good friends to this very day, and years later Joe remarried his current wife, Deb. They had a son together, Jose Angel Fuentes IV, carrying his name now through 4 generations

Joe got back into comics about 8 years ago and attacked them with a vengeance.  Since then he has worked on various independent books.  He did inking work on Studio NFC's Surge #1 and Rocket Girl #2 for Pickle Press.  As well for Pickle Press, he is currently working on digital colorings for 3 Keys #2 and several pages of Salem, Az.

Most recently Troy and Jose decided to form their own independent company called In-School Ink.  Their first book to see print, Dark Redemption: created by Joe and written by Jed Walls, is nearly finished.  It is a dark western about a vengeful priest named Chance and his reluctant companion Seraphine.

Jose keeps quite busy as of late.  Along with In-School Ink’s productions, he has also managed to pick up quite a few upcoming inking and coloring duties for Pickle Press, as well as a script that he is working on for friend Joel Cesar.

“Best friends that act more like the Odd Couple, but don't ask them who's Felix and who's Oscar.”
